Oily FAQ

Oily Basics

  • Why should I start with a kit and not just one oil?

#1 – ordering the starter kit gives you that 24% off member discount for life, plus a diffuser to use the oils. That alone is reason enough!
#2 – you can use oils for everything! The 11 oils in the kit are the most popular oils and I use them daily. These are the one you’ll always reach for for just about everything!! Whether you are looking for oils to help you sleep, for natural immune system support, for energy, for focus, for relaxation, for your kids, for natural alternatives to cleaning products, the list is endless, there is an oil for that!! The starter kit is where you’ll get your feet wet and learn. The kit is also a $360 value, marked down to $199 CAD ($160 USD) in the bundle. It’s a no brainer!

  • Why Use Essential Oils?

I think of essential oils as “healing in a bottle”. They don’t force the body to cover up symptoms, like a band-aid fix. They work on a deep cellular level, to help the body truly heal. Essential oils help us to maintain our health, rather than manage illness! Essential oils support and balance our endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, nervous, and reproductive systems.

  • How Do Essential Oils Work?

Essential oils are made up of minute, tiny little lipid-soluble molecules. They are so small, they can administer therapy at the most fundamental levels of the body. One drop contains 40 million trillion molecules – there are very concentrated, and you only have to use a little to get results.

The healing power of essential oils lies in the constituents that it contains, and their vibrational energy. Each essential oil is composed of 200 – 500 natural chemical constituents, and can therefore be helpful in healing many different symptoms in the body. No two oils are the same. The healing power of an essential oil cannot be manufactured in a lab, but must be harvested from the highest quality of plants.

  • How do you use essential oils?

There are 3 main ways to use oils: inhalation, topical application, and ingestion. Inhalation: Diffuse a blend or single oil with an ultrasonic diffuser. Ultrasonic diffusers are an excellent option, because they diffuse the oil in a micro fine vapour without heating the oils – ensuring that you get the full benefit. Inhale aroma directly from the bottle. Topical Application: Apply neat (without dilution) directly to skin, dilute with a carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, olive, sesame) and apply to skin. Apply essential oils these areas: crown of head, temples, behind ears, neck, upper back, abdomen, over vital organs, soles and top of feet, ankles! Make diluted roller bottles or spray bottles with your oils for easy application. Ingestion:  Note that all oils are not safe for ingestion, be sure to check the label first.  The new Young Living Plus essential oils (same oil, new label!) have been labeled for dietary use in Canada. Click here for a complete list of the dietary essential oils in Canada. To ingest oils you can add one drop to a teaspoon of honey, added to your tea! Or, use vegetable capsules and fill with several drops of essential oil. Add flavour to salad dressings, teas, smoothies, and even baking – a few drops goes a long way! Stir 1 drop into a glass of water for a refreshing drink

Young Living

  • What sets Young Living apart from other essential oils?

The vast majority of essential oils from other companies are extracted using high heat, high pressure, and chemical solvents.  Although the final product may still contain the aroma of the plant, these harsh processing methods destroy the therapeutic qualities of the oils. Using lesser-quality oils for therapeutic purposes is never recommended and can be extremely toxic. Since essential oils are the concentrated essence of the plant, any contaminants in the soil or on the plant will become present in the oil. Quality matters when you are looking to get therapeutic results!

  • What does therapeutic grade mean?

Young Living distills oils at minimum pressures and temperatures to gently coax the oil and all of its compounds into the finished product. Even though significant money, time, and labor can be saved by distilling at high pressures and high temperatures, like many companies do! High pressure/high temperature distillation may produce an oil with the fragrance compounds of an oil, but not with the beneficial compounds. Young Living never uses solvents to finish off the distilling process as many companies do.The key to producing a therapeutic grade essential oil is to preserve as many of the delicate aromatic compounds within the essential oil as possible. Most of these elements are very fragile and are destroyed by high temperature and high pressure.

  • Why Young Living?

Young Living is the worldwide leader in essential oils, founded 25 years ago. The company is established and has surpassed $1 billion in sales the last several years. Aside from that, Young Living has an unmatched Seed to Seal process to guarantee the purity & potency of every oil from the time it’s a Seed until it’s Sealed in the bottle as an oil. You can be confident that each oil you’re getting is in fact 100% oil, safe to diffuse, use with your kids, and beyond.

  • Where do YL oils come from?

Young Living owns and operates four large farms in Utah, Idaho, France, and Ecuador, all of which were clean and free of chemicals for at least 50 years before Young Living agreed to buy the land. In fact, the land in Idaho had never been farmed before Young Living.

  • Does Young Living use third-party testing to ensure quality?

YES! Young Living has an expertly staffed, fully equipped laboratory for testing oils including a gas chromatograph, a mass spectrometer, and other equipment whose value adds up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Young Living also has small labs on their farms to test the plants right from the field as they mature to determine the exact season and time of day to harvest the crop for the best oil. This is necessary because plants change their chemistry throughout the season and throughout the day, varying from week to week and hour to hour.  Young Living is also the only company to submit their oils to AIRASE for purity testing.  Read more about AIRASE here.

  • What Is Seed to Seal?

Right from seed to seal, Young Living has strict guidelines for cultivating, harvesting and distilling each plant. This helps to optimize the available chemical constituents in the resulting essential oil. Plant material is harvested at the optimum time, distilled without solvents or chemicals for a precise amount of time, at a precise amount of pressure (low temps and low pressure) which are set SPECIFICALLY for each and every plant. Many say that YL oils are beyond organic – they farm on land that has not been polluted with herbicides, pesticides, and chemicals for at least 50 years. USDA Certified Organic standards only require 3 years. No chemical weed killers are ever used. Seed Sourcing – never from hybrids, always no-GMO seeds, and are hand picked from the healthiest looking plants each year. Young Living essential oils only touch stainless steel or glass during the distillation process. Young Living uses specially designed and built cone-shaped, vertical distillers. The only ones in North America. Read more here.

  • Do I have to order a minimum amount or sell a minimum amount each month?

No! There is no obligation to sell the products or keep buying. Signing up with Young Living with a wholesale account is just a membership where you get discounted pricing – just like at Costco! Also like a Costco membership, you will have the option to earn reward points which you can spend on free products. There are so many benefits!

  • Is there a yearly fee to keep my Young Living account?

Once you get your starter kit, you are good to go! All you have to do to keep your Young Living account active is order 50 PV each year.

  • Once I get my Starter Kit, are there resources to help me learn about how to use the oils?

Yes! We are part of an amazing team that is overflowing with resources and support to help you on your oily journey. Once you order your kit, we will send you a welcome email with information on how to join our private facebook group which is loaded with videos and other resources to help answer all your questions. • What oils should I get?

A premium starter kit, which comes with 11 of the most commonly used oils + your diffuser (I recommend the Desert Mist), is the best value & provides you with everything you need to get started. You’ll get over $360 worth of product for only $199 CAD ($160 USD). If you’re looking to add in some items in addition to your kit, I recommend Thieves Cleaner, Peace + Calming, and Orange essential oil!

  • Do I have to order more oils monthly or sell them?

Nope, there are no requirements or secret gimmicks with Young Living! Your kit can be a one time purchase, but I promise you it won’t be! You can also use your personal referral link to share with friends + family – but again, neither of these are required.
