The Best Oatmeal Ever!

Best Oatmeal Ever

Hey everyone!

I hope your having an amazing week and if you’re not then i think this delicious oatmeal recipe will help cheer you up! To be honest I’ve never been a fan of oatmeal… In fact I use to hate it. Since travelling I’ve been trying out so many variations of oatmeal to find one that suites my taste buds. Oatmeal is an amazing staple when your travelling because it’s affordable (so cheap!), easy to store, fast to make, and you can make so many variations and use what ever you have on hand and it will fill you up till lunch:) For all these reasons I was determined to make myself like eating oatmeal! And that was when “The Best Oatmeal Ever” happened 😀

This oatmeal is perfect for any day of the week and will provide you with antioxidants, fibre, protein, iron, potassium and omega 3’s. Plus it will keep your tummy full and happy until lunch time. The secret ingredient to thi recipe is banana- And yes I know lots of people add banana to their oatmeals but what wre doing here in this recipe is actually melting and cooking the banana into the oats. The bananas along with the almond milk create a delicous creamy texture and the bananas give the oats a sweet taste so you don’t even have to add stevia or honey if you don’t want to. Ok so lets get started!

ingredients

Ingredients:

1 med very ripe banana chopped – you can use frozen if you’d like

1/2 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats

1 cup of filtered water

1 1/2 tbsp. of almond milk

1/2 tbsp. of chia seeds

1 tbsp. of crushed walnuts

1-2 tsp. of cinnamon

a pinch of sea salt

Extras:

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal: Add 1 whole sweet apple like pink lady or Fuji and sprinkle some extra cinnamon 🙂

Blueberry Banana Oatmeal: Add 1/2 cup of frozen or fresh blueberries

Protein Oatmeal: Add in 1 scoop of vanilla hemp or rice protein powder ( My favourites are Sun Warrior brown rice or The Vega Vanilla Chai )

Directions:

1. In a medium-sized sauce pan on medium heat you want to add in the oats, cinnamon, salt and half the amount of water.

2. Once the water starts to steam and bubble slighty you can then add in the rest of the water, banana, milk and turn the heat to low.

3. Next, keep stirring the oatmeal until the banana is melted down into the pot and add in any extras like blueberries, apples or protein powder.

4. Once your happy with the consistency of your oatmeal you can turn off the heat, place it in a bowl and add in your chia seeds, walnuts and raw honey if you prefer.

NOTE: I find that the banana gives this recipe enough sweetness but feel free to add in some raw honey at the end if you need an extra boost!

  1. I do love a good bowl of oatmeal, and the thicker and heartier, the better! The addition of chia seeds is so smart. I love making them into pudding, but hadn’t thought of pairing their thickening power with oats as well.

  2. I love oatmeal!! And, in the same way, I find that the banana really does sweeten things up just enough. One of my current favorite mix-ins are egg whites! I add them during the last 2 minutes of cooking and the result is a fluffy, custard-like bowl of oats that keep me full all day long (thanks to the extra protein boost!)
